Our Client is developer of utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) power plants with mission to lower the cost of power for homeowners and businesses in the North East US, with locally generated, clean energy. The company’s work covers all aspects of project delivery including development, construction management and long-term asset management.

The Position

They are seeking to appoint a dedicated Grid and Storage Manager to optimise the interconnection process and de-risk project development efforts. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the end to end interconnection process for all Solar and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects within the portfolio and will be regularly negotiating with the regional grid operator and local utilities, such as CMP and Versant, in order to drive cost and time savings in projects. A creative approach will be required, which may involve combining storage and solar on sites in order to optimise available capacity. Finally, the candidate will be responsible for defining and implementing the Company’s BESS strategy and is expected to build up a strong knowledge of route to market and revenue streams for both standalone and co-located BESS.

Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the position will include but are not limited to:

  • Work under direction of the Programme Manager and Directors.
  • Manage the end-to-end Interconnection process.
  • Work closely with utilities and ISO North East to optimise interconnection solutions, modifying capacity or storage as required to reduce cost/MW.
  • Develop BESS strategy for North East, identifying opportunities to include storage on existing solar projects in addition to exploring new sites and standalone projects. BESS development strategy to be expanded nationally.
  • Identify and recommend best technical solutions for implementing storage on sites.
  • Build up strong understanding of various revenue streams for storage (FCAS, arbitrage, contingency etc.) with a view to developing a viable business model in collaboration with their Finance and Investments Team.
  • Coordinate with programme manager to ensure that projects are sufficiently de-risked before making grid payments.
  • Manage external consultants to ensure that spend is kept within budget.
  • Ensure all project tasks are kept up to date.

Job requirements

The candidate should display strong communication, coordination, problem solving and organizational skills. The candidate will be based in North East US, but travel overseas is expected. Whereas no previous experience in the Renewable Energy sector is necessary, the following are the basic qualifications the company requires:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering a requirement.
  • 3-5 years experience managing the interconnection process for renewable energy projects in the US.
  • Experience in storage-related project preferred.
  • Good knowledge of North East power market.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills are essential.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Experience and expertise with MS Office is essential.
